Dinner out and a quiet day at home

Greetings

This is just a quick note-while-Max-washes-up note tonight ... it is early bedtime for everyone (and B is already sleeping, so that makes this time all the more precious!)

Yesterday afternoon, Max, Victoria & Johnathan took Trickle ashore so they could take some of the local kids sailing. Everyone had fun - they were gone for hours, and all the kids who wanted to got a turn in Trickle, as well as a turn in the RHIB (the girls, especially, were surprised when Max asked if they wanted to drive). I was doing chores on Fluenta, but at one point, I heard a little voice call "hey, Mom" and I went up to look, and there were Johnathan and "little Rio" sailing by. Proud mama moment for sure :)

We were invited ashore for dinner last night with Rio and his family. We shared some of the beef we were given in Hatiheu (Nuku Hiva, Marquesas, French Polynesia). It was fun to think of their generosity being passed along :) As usual, our kids ate at the table with the grownups, while the kids from their house ate in a "second sitting" after we were finished. Rio and Koola told us that it was just a small meal, but we still had corned beef (cooked with tomatoes and onions - much better than when I tried to cook it in Papeete!), fried fish (mullet - tasty), fried coconut patties, and rice, in addition to the meat that we brought. Another feast!

After dinner, we sat and chatted on their "front porch" which is actually the edge of the dinghy dock, just beyond the lights from the house, and all we could see were stars! It was beautiful, and peaceful, and just what one might imagine an after-dinner visit in the South Pacific to be like.

Today was a quiet day on the boat - we both did some of the jobs on our "list" and the kids read lots. It was too windy for Trickle. Benjamin is cutting more teeth (two on the top), so he is alternately happy and *not happy* ... but the rest of us are well :)

We love you and we miss you,
Elizabeth
